QUEEN WEST
“Queen West”, 2021 stars the radiant National Ballet of Canada artist Alejandra Perez-Gomez in the principal role. Perez-Gomez returns as an actress, choreographer, and dancer for her second starring role with Ocean Course Films ~ coincidentally performing as a majestic art spirit returning.
Sound artist
Kristel Jax also returns to Ocean Course Films again as a key collaborator to create a deep atmospheric soundtrack carrying the HD video.
New Genres artist Otino Corsano serves as director and choreographer to transform the memory of conversation into an art film with no dialogue. “Queen West” transcribes the spirit of an art community returning.
This latest Ocean Course Films production revisits the centre of the Toronto Arts community and its contemporary loss. “Queen West” adopts a B&W aesthetic reminiscent of Colin Campbell’s early work along with orbital structuralism akin to Michael Snow’s film experiments.
Can a singular person signify an Arts community beyond place and product?
Can a single conversation form the basis of a film with no dialogue?
What remains of art and memory in the public realm?
Canadian art as a disappearing act returns.
